Acton studied at RMIT in the 1960’s had a successful career in Fashion for over 30 years, some of her highlights being designing the Australian Olympic uniforms in 1978, 1984, 1988 and winning many awards in the Fashion Industry and receiving an OBE in 1982.

After closing her business in the late 1980s, she returned to her 1st love, painting. She began studying and painting with famous Australian artist, Clifton Pugh. Acton also attended life drawing classes at Swinburne College as well as studying with Mervyn Moriarity, founder of the Brisbane Institute of Art. From 1989 onwards she held group and solo exhibitions with Clifton Pugh and the Dunmoochin Artists as well as various galleries throughout Australia.

In this current body of work, Acton continues to explore beauty through light and form, and particularly colour and the "right" relationships that we recognise as beauty.

"Some say beauty is in 'the eye of the beholder', is 'skin deep'; I prefer to think of beauty as revealing the continuing potential of life to evolve and its power to connect with us emotionally. My subjects are natural and mainly hand-made objects seen either in shade or bright light and placed against coloured or white grounds, as I explore the colour fields of various hues: from reds, cobalt violets, blues, celadons, golds, blacks and whites. Whilst I can never better nature, rightness is that to which I aspire." Prue Acton 2012

"These current paintings are mainly executed in pastel – pure, malleable, pigment. The marks are sometimes layered, sometimes dots of colour." Prue Acton 2012
